It's not just what we buy, it's how we buy it

  • We’re committed to ethical purchasing practices and supporting the local communities we buy our tea from.
  • We pay well above the world average price for the teas we buy. Our main concerns when selecting teas are quality.
  • We buy our tea from a small number of tea gardens in Africa and India. This ensures that our tea is of the specific quality, taste, strength and colour that appeals to you, our Irish tea drinkers.
  • 85% of our tea is purchased directly from government agencies who help small farmers sell their tea at the best possible price. Our other main suppliers have proven themselves to be model employers in the countries they operate in, providing excellent medical and educational facilities for tea pickers and their families.
  • Barry’s Tea proudly source and blend the ‘Heart of Africa’ Fairtrade tea. ‘Heart of Africa’ is a group of leading Irish companies working hand in hand with African businesses to create natural and healthy products. The role of 'Heart of Africa' is to empower these developing countries with improved business skills and technology to assist in creating sustainable economic growth; this is known as 'Aid for Trade'. All profits from the ‘Heart of Africa’ range go directly back to the communities they come from.
